About
Summit Lake Stock Corral (elevation 6,700 ft.) is conveniently located on the main road of Lassen Volcanic National Park. The stock corral is within walking distance of the small but scenic Summit Lake and seven miles from the trailhead to Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park (elevation 10,457 ft.). Riders will find one of the park’s major trails only 1/4 mile away from the stock corral. A convenient horse trail leads to the Summit Lake Ranger Station where the trailhead is located. Many more trails are in close proximity with access to Juniper Lake, Snag Lake, and Butte Lake. The Pacific Crest Trail, which runs through the park, is also accessible from the Summit Lake Stock Corral. Persons reserving the stock corral and campsite must have accompanying horses or stock animals. No motorized boats permitted on the lake. Pack animals allowed are horses, mules, burros, and llamas. Backcountry permits are required for all horse/stock use within the park. These may be obtained at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, the Loomis Museum or through the mail to the park headquarters, P. O. Box 100, Mineral, CA 96063. Prior to your arrival, we recommend calling the Visitor Center at (530) 595-4480 for more information on obtaining a permit. Persons reserving the Summit Lake Stock Corral must review a copy of the Saddle and Pack Stock Use regulations. Be Bear Aware; food and scented products must be stored in the bear lockers provided at each site. Pets require a 6-ft leash, must not be left unattended, and are not allowed on park trails. An entrance fee of $20 per vehicle is required and campers must have a valid entrance permit or pass before camping.
