About
On Monday, August 21, 2017, North America will experience a total solar eclipse. This event occurs approximately every 70 years, making it a once in a lifetime event for many. The path of totality (where the moon will block view of the sun completely) will stretch coast to coast, beginning in Oregon. The eclipse will begin at approximately 9:05 a.m., Pacific Daylight Time, and end at 11:36 a.m. with totality of complete darkness occurring for over a minute at around 10:17 a.m. Marys Peak, at 4,097 feet, is the highest point in Oregon's Coast Range and the most prominent peak to the west of Corvallis. It is expected to be a popular place to view the solar eclipse. On a clear day from the top of the peak, you can see both the Pacific Ocean to the west and many of the Cascade peaks to the east across the Willamette Valley. Marys Peak has been designated a special Scenic Botanical Area because of its rich, unique scenery, meadows and plants.
