About
This campground is located in the southeast corner of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, 15 miles west of Redding, California, and three and a half hours north of Sacramento. This is the only campground in the park that can accommodate camping with horses, but horseback riders must share the campground with visitors who may not have horses. The cool, clear waters of Whiskeytown Lake provide endless water activities. The picturesque mountain setting and extensive forested backcountry offer ample opportunities for horseback riding, hiking and biking. Whiskeytown is a National Park Service site and requires an entrance fee in addition to your camping fee. You can purchase an entrance pass online at YourPassNow.com , or at the visitor center. For complete entrance pass information, go to nps.gov/whis. Black bears frequent the area: all food, beverage containers, toiletries, cooking and eating utensils must be stored inside a bear-resistant locker or out of sight in your vehicle unless they are in immediate use. Generators are not allowed. You can go directly to the site any time after 1:00 pm on the day of your reservation. No additional check-in is needed. Check out time is 12 pm (noon). No additional check-out is required. We suggest that you download your reservation to your device or print out the email receipt in case it is needed. If you have any concerns, call the park dispatch office at (530) 242-3431. The office is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Maximum occupancy is 6 people and 2 vehicles.
