Cougar Rock Campground, on the southwest side of Mt. Rainier National Park, is convenient to the Paradise area. Paradise is the most popular destination in the park, with a lodge and visitor center, many miles of hiking trails and a commanding view of the mountain-the highest in the state and Cascade range. The main attraction at Mount Rainier National Park is the mountain itself, a massive glacier-clad volcano, peaking at 14,411 ft. and dominating the skyline for hundreds of miles. Visitors travel through majestic old-growth forests, past tumbling waterfalls and historic buildings to reach sub-alpine meadows, where world-famous wildflower displays bloom through July and August. Popular activities in the park include sight-seeing, hiking, rock climbing and camping. Cougar Rock campground is located at an elevation of 3,180 feet. Summers are dry and cool with daytime temperatures ranging from 60 to 80 degrees. Weather throughout the park can be variable, so visitors should come prepared. Tent Camping Please pay attention to campsite maximum limits when selecting a site. If you exceed posted limits, you may be turned away upon arrival if a larger site is not available. Maximum two tents per site provided both tents fit within the specified tent pad dimensions. Most campsites can only accommodate one tent. Maximum two passenger vehicles per site provided both vehicles fit in the driveway, are not parked on any vegetation, and are clear of the roadway. RV Camping Please pay attention to campsite maximum limits when selecting a site. If you exceed campsite limits, you may be turned away upon arrival if a larger site is not available. Maximum one RV and tow vehicle per site provided both vehicles fit in the driveway, are not parked on any vegetation, and are clear of the roadway. Motor homes over 35 feet and trailers over 27 feet are not allowed to enter the campground. Turns on loop roads are tight and vehicle damage is likely to occur. There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites. A free dump station and potable water are located near the campground entrance. General Information Please call the campground office at (360) 569-6626 if you are unable to keep your reservation. We would rather not turn away walk up campers if your site will be available. Maximum six people per campsite. Many campsites can only accommodate four or less. Reserving multiple individual sites for events or family gatherings exceeding 12 people is not permitted. Groups larger than 12 people must stay at Cougar Rock Group Campground. Group sites are tent-only. RVs are not permitted. There are no shower or laundry facilities located in the park. Portable showers are prohibited. Hammocks must be hung within the footprint of the campsite over bare ground. Camping fees do not include entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Only valid America the Beautiful Interagency Lifetime Access, Lifetime Senior, and Annual Senior passes qualify for discounted camping rates. Passes used for discounts must be verified at the campground upon arrival. This area is subject to sudden and severe geological hazards such as flooding, landslides and rock fall. Gathering firewood, pine cones, pine needles or any other vegetation found within park boundaries is prohibited. Don’t Move Firewood : Help protect our forests!
