Spend a Weekend in Coloma

Immerse Yourself in History

James W. Marshall discovered gold in 1848 on the South Fork of the American River in the tailrace of the sawmill he was building for himself and John Sutter. This discovery changed the course of California’s and the nation’s history. See a replica of the original sawmill and over 20 historic buildings including mining, house, school, and store exhibits. Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is one of the most significant historic sites in the nation.

Grab an Adrenaline Rush – Try your adventurous side! White Water Rafting, Kayaking or Swimming. The weather’s hot, but the water’s cool. From beginner to advanced, Coloma have adventures for everyone.

Sip Local Wines – The Coloma-Lotus Valley and El Dorado County wineries are known for producing delicious and affordable, award winning wines. The decomposed granite and well-drained, gravelly soil provide a terroir that is unique to this specific area and very different when compared to Napa’s clay soil. It is perfect for growing Bordeaux varietals. However, our unique microclimate doesn’t get too hot or too cold, which is perfect for many different grapes including French and Italian varietals. This up and coming wine region offers an array of experiences, tastes and bouquets for beginners to the wine world, or for the more experienced oenophile.

Camp-California is concerned about the health and safety of our campers and adventurers. While camping and outdoor activities do offer the ability to self-isolate, we are encouraging all California residents and travelers to shelter in place until further notice. We recognize that getting outdoors is what you do best, and we will be here to reacquaint you with nature once we're cleared for adventure again!

Most private parks are open with 14-day minimums. If you are a full-time RVer looking to shelter in place, a member of the traveling medical profession, or a utility worker looking for a park please call our office and we can connect you with an appropriate location.
