Los Angeles / Orange County Visitor Information

Malibu Pier, Malibu Beach

The historic landmark is located in the heart of California’s surf culture. Surfers from around the world come to Surfrider Beach adjacent to Malibu Pier, known for its three-point break that offers rides of 300 yards or more.

The festive seaside atmosphere of good food and fun is returning to the famous pier. New restaurants offering classic seaside dishes complement the pier’s beautiful coastal location and rich history.

The pier has recently been restored reversing decades of decay while staying true to its historic character.

Attractions at the pier include:

  • Deep sea fishing – Sport fishing boat trips depart from the Malibu Pier twice a day. A short boat ride from the pier takes visitors to some of the best fishing grounds for sea bass, halibut and rockfish. You can also enjoy a leisurely day fishing off the Malibu Pier itself.
  • Malibu Pier Club and the Beachcomber Cafe  – The Malibu Pier Club is a classic seaside bar providing casual dining and a tiki bar “Tonga Lei Room.” The Beachcomber Cafe is a 1940’s style American dinner house that offers a vintage Malibu dining atmosphere, menus filled with eclectic coastal dishes and fantastic views of the surf.
  • Ruby’s Shake Shack – Old fashioned shakes, burgers and fries. Ruby’s Shake Shack, an oceanside café, is located in one of the historic 1940s buildings at the ocean end of the Pier. The Shake Shack is part of the Ruby’s chain, a restaurant chain with a lot of Southern California history. Their first hamburger restaurant opened on the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach in 1982, styled like a classic 40s diner and named for the owner’s mom.
  • Coastal Harbor Tours – Malibu’s more than 29 miles of glamorous coastline offers the perfect backdrop for a boat tour with family and friends.
  • Beach Equipment Rentals – Zuma Jay’s at the Malibu Pier opening 2009, renting surfboards, boogie boards, kayaks and other beach equipment.
  • Surf Museum – Plans are underway for a museum to display vintage surf memorabilia. The history of the surf culture in Malibu will be portrayed in artful exhibits. All within a view of Surfrider Beach.
