Description

Held in Sequoia National Park

With all that snow in the park, what else but a snowman building contest!  On Saturday January 14th, join families as they converge in Wuksachi, in the park about 20 minutes past the General Sherman Tree.  Build anything from elaborate structures, mutliple snow "people," or just one enourmous snow person.  The choice is yours!  Every family wins a prize and hot spiced cider is provided - along with snowshoes, so you can walk to the meadow where the buidling can begin.  This event is FREE and fun for everyone!

Description

Located in the southern Sierra Nevada, Sequoia National Park encompasses 404,051 acres of land. Home to giant sequoia trees, the park is famous for the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree in the world. The Giant Forest, where General Sherman is located, contains five of the ten largest trees on the earth. Most of the park is wilderness that is only accessible by foot or horse. Elevations in the park range from 1,370 feet to 14,494 feet. The High Sierra Trail gives access to Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States. Abundant wildlife can be found in the forests of Sequoia National Park. Visitors can spot animals from mule deer to Douglas squirrels, foxes, and bobcats. American black bears have been known to break into unattended cars, and there have been rare sightings of mountain lions.
