8 California Campgrounds Receive "A" Grade

AUBURN, Calif., March 15, 2013 – Eight California campgrounds received “A” grades in the fifth annual GuestRated.com satisfaction survey of privately owned and operated parks.

The eight California parks were among 42 campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across the country to earn an all around “A” grade in the survey, which was based on the responses of more than 30,000 camping and RV enthusiasts.

“Consistently earning an overall ‘A’ grade from guests is difficult, and our 42 winners this year represent less than 2% of all of the nation’s campgrounds.” said Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO of GuestRated.com, the Murrieta, Calif.-based company that conducted the online survey on behalf of the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds.

Consumers can find letter grade ratings for most of the campgrounds listed on Camp-California.com. The statewide travel planning website has a built-in grading system that enables consumers to rate their camping experiences at each park using letter grades from A to F.

“Most of the 350 plus campgrounds, RV parks and resorts have letter grades assigned to them based on consumer reviews,” said Debbie Sipe, executive director of the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which hosts Camp-California.com.

“The letter grades,” she added, “are a quick way for consumers to separate the best parks from those that are still working to become top rated parks. This is valuable information for consumers to have, particularly as they begin making their spring and summer travel plans.”

Based in Auburn, California, the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrouns also produces Camp-California, the Camper’s Guide to California, a four-color glossy magazine that lists nearly 800 campgrounds and RV resorts throughout the Golden State. It is considered a critical travel planning resource for camping and RVing enthusiasts with information not only on RV and tent sites, but a wide variety of rental accommodations, including tent cabins, yurts, teepees, covered wagons and even motels. But while Pismo Coast Village RV Resort offers plenty of things to do, park manager Jay Jamison attributes the resort’s “A” rating to the efforts of his 55 to 70 staff members, most of whom have been working at the park for many years, as well as the resort’s constant efforts to improve its facilities.

“The park is actually better built now than it was originally,” Jamison said. Recent improvements include restroom replacement, new fencing, road paving, and installing new 50 amp utility connections in locations that are more convenient for today’s RVs and remodeling the park’s club house and swimming pool. The park has also installed new landscaping.

“The people who come here appreciate the fact that we’re always investing back into the property,” Jamison said. “Our staff is painting all the time. They will paint the curbs around the resort probably four times a year.”

Pismo Coast Village RV Resort has also developed an RV storage program which currently has 1,700 RVs, which are stored on various properties within 10 miles of the resort. “When the RV owner calls to make a reservation, it triggers a process for that unit to be placed on their site for their day of arrival,” he said, adding that parents and grandparents will often make their RVs available to their children and grandchildren for use at the resort.

“The children and grandchildren don’t even need the skill to drive or tow an RV because we do it for them,” Jamison said.
