Butterflies in Andrew Molera State Park, Monterey
One of the better places for observing the Monarch Butterflies that return to Big Sur in October and migrate north in January. This is where they roost in the Eucalyptus trees in Cooper Grove (the grove of Eucalyptus trees by the Cooper Cabin) along the Big Sur River. It is an amazing sight as thousands of butterflies click to the Eucalyptus trees making them appear to be orange in color. The park is open to day use.
